Current Positions Open

Software Engineering Internship

This opportunity is best suited for candidates who have completed a Computer Science or Software Engineering degree, or related field in a post-secondary program. The position will be located remotely or at the company office at UVIC, as regulated by the University Covid-19 regulations.

This internship may receive funding from The Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) program, funded by the Government of Canada, and delivered by Innovate BC, so applicants must be aged 15-30 to be eligible. We can not accept co-op applicants for this position at this time.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work on technical issues, including software system design and maintenance
  • Consult with the supervisor to evaluate software-hardware interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements
  • Design and develop software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and design consequences

Activities

  • Developing marine AR navigation camera display and infrastructure system
  • Commercialize marine AR navigation system and set up manufacturing and distribution processes
  • Collaborate with business developers to demonstrate AR navigation product capabilities and technical features to create sales and marketing initiatives
  • Work on developing new digital marine camera and display projects

Qualifications

  • Completed a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and prioritizing skills, capable of complex reasoning analysis
  • Self starter driven by results, setting goals, and meeting deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate on projects, maintain effective relationships, and communicate clearly
  • Must be independent and capable of working under minimal supervision
  • Must be aged 15-30 and be legally entitled to work in Canada as a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status at the start of the internship

Skills

  • Solid knowledge of HTML 5, JavaScript
  • Experience with nodeJS, jQuery, WebSocket and/or socketIO
  • Experience using Debian-derived Linux OS distros
  • Working understanding of networking concepts (HTTP, TCP/IP protocols, video streaming, etc.)
  • Experience with Arduino/RaspberryPi is a plus

Mechanical Engineer Intern

We are currently seeking a highly motivated intern for the position of Mechanical Engineer/Mechanical Engineering Technician for a 32-week internship at Wisertech. The Mechanical Engineering intern will support improvement projects and do daily tasks to improve process operations.

This opportunity is best suited for candidates who have completed a Mechanical, Mechatronic or Industrial Engineering degree in a post-secondary program. The position will be located remotely or at the company office at UVIC.

Please note that this position will be supported by government funding. Offer of employment is dependent upon applicants meeting eligibility requirements.

Activities

  • Design and build solar capture experimental mechanical systems
  • Implement problem-solving activities to improve overall process performance
  • Document processes, collect and analyze data and interact with employees and lead hands
  • Support activities by working closely with the team
  • Perform all other duties reasonable to the position as assigned by the Manager

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or certificate in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical or Industrial Engineering
  • Knowledge and experience in a manufacturing environment (considered an asset)
  • Experience with Solidworks/Fusion360 having the ability to update and change drawings and plant layouts (considered an asset)
